PREPARING FOR THE NEXT PHASE
The UK government has confirmed that there will be a 3 phase adjustment when dealing with customs procedures with the EU from 2021.
THE THREE PHASES
PHASE 1: STARTUP
JANUARY 1st 2021
All exports from the UK will need to be customs cleared upon departure from the UK border prior to entering the EU.
Anyone importing general goods from the EU will initially have up to a 6-month period to complete a customs declaration and pay import duty.
PHASE 2: WORK IN PROGRESS
APRIL 1st 2021
UK buyers importing other types of cargo from the EU will require pre-notification and relevant health documents.
These types of goods are not general cargo and can refer to meat, dairy products, plants, animal foods.
PHASE 3: IMPLEMENTATION COMPLETE
JULY 1st 2021
UK buyers importing all goods from the EU will require to make a full import clearance and pay import tariffs at the point of importation.
Extended security checks will be introduced.
